The G6 GTI, when launched didn't get the praise its predecessor (Golf 5) got when it was launched and tested by motoring gurus around the world. Many motoring journalists found the exterior rather boring and dull, many said the engine could have been tweaked a little more to keep up with its rivals.
I must admit that I agreed with all those motoring journalist, until I drove the beast! Last month my buddy and I went on the advanced safety driving course offered by VW South Africa. I was expecting this car to under perform based on all the write ups I read, yes I judged a book by its cover, because the G6 did everything but under perform. On most front wheel drive cars under steer is a nightmare believe it or not, that whilst driving the G6 we hardly experienced under steer. Through the gears your head slams the back of the headrest and at top end she still wants to go. Amazing!!
Moral of the story is, VW were criticised for taking the safe root, making a motor that is capable of lasting and performing and doing so all at once as well as setting the bench mark again.
What are your thoughts?
